Economy Design for a standalone app

Kinder Easter was a limited-time standalone app created for an exclusive Easter event within the Applaydu universe. Featuring 10+ engaging minigames, players could earn in-game currency by completing challenges. This currency could then be used to unlock exclusive Kinder toys within the app, adding an extra layer of excitement and rewards to the experience.

01 Core Loop

The economic system of Kinder Easter has 1 main currency: CARROTS.

How to earn carrots?

  1. Collecting carrots inside the minigame levels.

  2. Convert score/collectables on the end screen.

  3. Exchanging clones of the toys.

02 Unlocking toys

  • To unlock a new toy, players must gather enough carrots. 

  • The toy's price will remain constant over time and will be displayed to users when they access the surprise screen by pressing the surprise UI button.

 

How to unlock a new toy:

  1. Go to the surprise screen.

  2. Tap on the surprise box.

  3. Random unlock of a toy:

    1. For the first 13 toys: No clones

    2. After the first 13 toys: Can unlock clones.

 

  • The price to open the surprise box with carrots is shown on the surprise screen.

  • If the player does not have enough carrots left, the screen shows exactly the number of carrots that are remaining for the user to be able to open the surprise box.

  • If the player has enough carrots, this will be the flow after tapping on the surprise box:

   

NOTE: 

  • The home button at the top left corner will disappear during the box opening animation.

  • After the box opening animation is done, the home button. The toy that is revealed will be added to the HUB collection.​

03 Unlock Rules

The game economy will be divided into 2 parts:

  • Early game

  • Late game

 

Early Game Rules:

  • Early Phase is when the user unlocks the first 13 unique universes.

  • For instance, if the user has unlocked the first toy from the WWF universe, the next 12 toys will not be from the WWF universe.

  • The user can open the surprise screen by clicking on the surprise button from any universe. The toys may have a percentage or priority, and the surprise box will reveal a toy based on this priority. This priority applies solely in the Early Phase of the game.

    • The first four universes will be randomly selected from Barbie, JL, Miraculous, Minions, MLP, Gormiti, 44 Cats, and WWF. Once the first four universes are unlocked, keep the priority the same for all toys. Disney toys may now begin unlocking.

    • NOTE: Spiderman can never be unlocked by carrots.

  • Users will unlock unique toys, meaning no clones will be given to the user during the Early Phase of the game.

    • If a user rescans the card of an already unlocked toy, show the same animation, and it will not be treated as a clone.

    • If a toy is unlocked by carrots in the app, and the user later buys the card and scans it, the toy will be treated as a clone.

 

Late game rules:
 

  • Late game is the phase in which the user can unlock clones.

  • Clones will introduce them to exchanging toys to get more carrot currency.
